Kentucky 2

Kentucky prides itself in its renewed preservation and efforts to restore its natural environment and its local flora and fauna. Currently, the state has at least forty five state parks, thirty seven acres of state forests, two national forests, two historic parks, two recreational areas, and one national park.

The state had been involved in the country’s efforts for wildlife reintroduction. At the least, it had reintroduced the elk population back into the state, which had disappeared well over a century and a half. Now, at least five thousand seven hundred animals are witnessed east of the Mississippi river.

This project had also revived the turkey population. Back in the 1950’s, turkeys were almost none existent in Kentucky. Today, the state prides itself to have the most number of turkeys in all other eastern states.

The culture of Kentucky is said to be of the Southern descent, mostly influenced by Midwest and Southern Appalachia. Kentucky is known for its big horse races, one of great prestige is the Kentucky Derby which is followed by the Kentucky Derby Festival in Lousville. The place also hosts the Kentucky State Fair, the National Quartet Convention, and the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival. Owensboro also hosts the annual International Bar-B-Q Festival, a world renowned festival of grilling and barbeques that places Kentucky as the “Barbeque Capital of the World.”

Kentucky’s cooking style is a blend of Midwest and southern influence. Fusion cuisine is fast becoming a favorite as well, as most leading restaurants in Kentucky are starting to serve fusion dishes. Some of the dishes include chili hush puppies, Japanese cole slaw, and fish with green tea. Burgoo and chili con carne are fast favorites, as well as European sausages. The only people not influenced by this change are those of the southern, as their thoroughfare of ham and bourbon remains to be the same.
